PURE Community Energy Fund
Low-interest loans are available to non-commercial organisations to provide cost effective financing for community renewable energy projects in the UK.
Loans are available for 50% of the eligible costs up to a maximum of £50,000.
Loans can be repaid over a term which suits the cash flow for each individual project up to a maximum of five years. The rate of interest payable on the loan and the dates for the payment of interest will be set out in the Loan Offer Letter.

Expressions of Interest may be submitted at any time.
Charities, community groups and not-for-profit organisations in the United Kingdom are eligible to apply.
Loans are available for small scale renewable energy projects. The technology to be installed must be of a kind specified by the Department for Energy and Climate Change as eligible for Feed-in Tariffs (FIT) or Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI), this includes the following:
Feed-in Tariffs:
- Anaerobic digestion.
- Hydro power.
- Photovoltaics.
- Wind turbines.
- Renewable Heat Incentives:
- Air, water and ground-source heat pumps.
- Solar thermal.
- Biomass boilers.
The eligible costs in respect of which a loan can be claimed are as follows:
- Solar photovoltaics:
- Cost of solar photovoltaic generation equipment.
- Direct costs of fixing panels to roof/ground mount, any performance displays and connecting to electricity supply.
- Micro hydro turbines:
- Cost of hydro turbine generation equipment.
- Direct costs of installing the turbine, engineering works necessary to achieve installation, performance displays and connecting to electricity supply.
- Wind turbines:
- Cost of wind turbine generation equipment.
- Direct cost of roof/ground mount, any performance displays and connecting to electricity supply.
- Solar thermal hot water:
- Cost of solar thermal hot water panels controllers, solar cylinders, safety components and valves.
- Direct costs of fixing panels to roof/ground mount and connecting to water supply for property.
- Heat pumps:
- Cost of heat generation pipes and other equipment necessary for the system to be operational.
- Direct costs of ground works for boring vertical or horizontal pipe work and connecting to the electrical supply and heat distribution system at the property.
- Wood pellet stoves, wood fuelled boiler systems:
- Cost of relevant heater/stove/boiler equipment.
- Direct costs of connecting the unit to an automated fuel delivery mechanism and connecting to the property's heat distribution system.
There is no restriction on where the balance of the project finance comes from.
Loans cannot be used for works that are not directly necessary for the installation of the technology.
The applicant may claim the loan in one single instalment or make an interim claim of up to 50% of the total loan followed by an instalment for the balance of the loan.
The first stage in applying for a loan is to complete the online Expression of Interest form which is available at the Trust's website.
Using the Expression of Interest form, PURE will select projects to apply for a loan. The selection is intended to achieve a mix of geographic locations, technologies supported and types of host organisations. Selected applicants will be contacted and invited to commence the formal application process.
The applicant may apply to the Fund as many times as they wish, for funding for the same or different projects.
