WorldWildlife Fund S&W is co-ordinating a campaign in marginal constituencies in the
region. These include Chippenham and Swindon South in Wiltshire. WWF suggest that
all supporters should ask any prospective candidates who call on them what their party will do to mitigate climate change. Candidates generally feedback to their parties on questions asked, and so this is an easy way to send a message.
In addition they are proposing 3 main actions
1. Make contact with your prospective
parliamentary candidate, and ask
their views on climate change.
2. Ask five friends to ask their candidates
about climate change.
3. Keep WWF in touch with progress
through their website.
In Chippenham a Climate Change Question Time has been arranged for Wednesday 7 April from 7.30-9.30 at the Neeld Hall, Borough Parade. Duncan Hames, (LIB Dem), and Greg Lovvell (Lab) and Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones have accepted.
This contains a supported tool kit with details of local candidates and suggestions on how to lobby them, including a climate change briefing, and contact details for the local media. WWF will also organize hustings for Swindon South and Chippenham once the election campaign starts, which will be an opportunity to hear the views of all the parties, and to demonstrate the strength of feeling on climate change.
You can download a poster for the hustings in chippenham below.
In Marlborough there will also be a hustings on development and climate at st John's School. This will take place on 23 March and is organised by Marlborough Climate Pledge and Marlborough Brandt Group.
