Wiltshire Groups rallied today in support of the Wiltshire Councils' signing of the Nottingham Declaration.(see document attached below) After hearing that a motion had been placed on the agenda that the Council withdraw from the agreement, individuals and groups quickly arranged to show their concern that the signing be honoured. Following a lively debate in full council the motion was defeated by a ratio of 84:6 with two abstentions.
This is not only a great result for the county but also for public action. Jane Scott the Council Leader said she had never seen so many emails on any other topic.
Toby Sturgis, the portfolio holder, affirmed his intention to bring a motion that the Council sign up to the 10:10 campaign. It would be a good demonstration of local appreciation of the reaffirmation if thousands of us also signed up to it.
