Wiltshire Warm and Well Insulation Scheme
More people will now qualify for free insulation with the new Wiltshire Warm and Well top-up.
What is the Wiltshire Warm and Well Scheme?
The Wiltshire Warm and Well scheme was set up to substantially increase the number of well insulated properties within Wiltshire at an affordable cost.
Since June 2011 the scheme has installed 1,058 measures (cavity wall or loft insulation) in 923 homes.
Will I qualify for the Wiltshire Warm and Well scheme?
The scheme is open to all residents who own their own home or rent privately. This also includes flats.
The scheme funds both loft and cavity wall insulation.
While everybody is eligible to apply for the scheme, there are limits relating to the amounts of pre-existing loft insulation and minimum / maximum treatable areas.
All householders under the maximum insulation allowances will qualify for free insulation.
Those householders who exceed the maximum insulation allowance will have to make a customer contribution unless they qualify for the new top-up.
What is the new top-up?
Wiltshire Council has provided additional funding to provide free insulation for those in priority groups who exceed the insulation allowance and have to make a customer contribution. The priority groups are:
- Householders over 60 years old.
- Households whose total income is less than £16,000 per year gross
- Families with children under 16 with an income below £22,000 per year gross
- Households with an income of below £30,000 per year gross where a member has been made redundant, lost overtime or taken lower paid work
- Householders living with disability and/or on certain benefits
The top-up will cover costs for these groups up to the value of £200, which should mean it is free for almost all householders in these groups.
How does this differ from other insulation grants available?
There many insulation schemes available as they are funded via the government’s CERT (Carbon Emissions Reduction Target) scheme, as is Wiltshire Warm and Well. The difference is that Wiltshire Warm and Well scheme is also partly funded by Wiltshire Council who has provided the top-up money for priority groups.
Wiltshire Council has teamed up with the Severn Wye Energy Agency to administer the scheme and the contractor Domestic and General to deliver the scheme.
What other grants are available?
The Warm and Well scheme is also able to provide a subsidised rate for external solid wall insulation.
Further support is available for cavity wall insulation in flats.
